From Stars to Tigran the Great's Coins: A Conversation with Vahagn Gurzadyan, Director of YSU Cosmology Center

The independent professional online media outlet Stemnews.am, as part of its "Scientific Centers of Armenia" project, interviewed Vahagn Gurzadyan, Director of YSU Cosmology Center, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor at the A.I. Alikhanian National Science Laboratory.

 

He shares the story of how his interest in astrophysics and cosmology began, and the influential role his family members played in shaping his professional path - particularly his father, astrophysicist Grigor Gurzadyan, and his brother Gagik Gurzadyan, who is also a physicist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and Professor.

 

Vahagn Gurzadyan discusses his collaboration with Nobel laureate Roger Penrose and recalls his impressions from witnessing a satellite launch in French Guiana in 2022. The astrophysicist also reveals how he identified an image of Halley's Comet on the coins of Tigran the Great.
