OCEAN SPIRAL: The Future City Will Be Built on the Ocean Floor

Japanese company Shimizu has developed the OCEAN SPIRAL project to build a future city in the depths of the ocean. This program is based on the idea that the ocean can solve humanity's five most critical problems: food, energy, water, CO2, and natural resources. The ocean covers 70% of our planet, but we have yet to harness its limitless potential.
The heart of the project is a 500-meter diameter spherical structure called BLUE GARDEN, designed to float in the deep sea. This city will be safer and more comfortable than terrestrial ones—free from storms, earthquakes, and temperature fluctuations. Residents will be able to enjoy seafloor views, breathe cleaner air, and engage in new types of activities.
The city will have three main components: First, BLUE GARDEN, where people will live and work. Second, INFRA SPIRAL, which will generate electricity from ocean water, grow plants, and manage marine transportation. Third, EARTH FACTORY, which will process CO2 gas and utilize seafloor resources.
The construction plan envisions using future technologies—3D printers and special types of concrete. The entire structure will be built on the ocean surface, then gradually submerged into the deep sea. Shimizu plans to create a complete network of such cities across all the world's oceans, adapted to the climatic and economic needs of different regions.
