Norway Launches World's First Wireless Charging Road That Powers Vehicles While Driving

Norway has launched the world's first wireless charging road for electric vehicles in the city of Trondheim. This innovative project has been implemented by Electreon Wireless and is designed for public transportation, specifically for charging electric buses.

The technology is based on inductive charging, where copper coils installed beneath the road surface create an electromagnetic field. This 100-meter road section allows vehicles equipped with compatible receivers to charge while in motion, without the need for stops or traditional charging stations.

The Norwegian government has invested 22.4 million Norwegian kroner (approximately $2.12 million USD) in this project. The project is particularly important as Norway aims to completely transition to electric vehicles and phase out internal combustion engines by 2025.

Trondheim's harsh winter conditions present a serious test for this technology. If the system operates successfully in snow and ice conditions, it could serve as a model for use in similar climate zones. The trials involve electric buses from Chinese companies Yutong and Higer.
